Luciana Migliore

Associate Professor of Ecology.

She carried out – and still is carrying out – institutional activities both at Tor Vergata, as a member of the Administrative Board, the Joint Commission and the Guarantee Committee, and at the Ministry of Education, as elected member of the Italian National University Council (CUN) for two four years term of office for the Biological area (Area 05 ). In the second term of office at CUN she was the Coordinator of the Commission for Legal Status and Recruitment Policies, Permanent Committee #5. At the Ministry of the Environment is a member of both the Committee “Evaluation of Phytosanitary use” and Committee “National Plan Against Antibiotic Resistances (PNCAR)”.

She was editor for Biological and Natural Sciences of the Italian Encyclopedia Institute by G. Treccani (1980-2001) and the Italian Medical Encyclopedia, UTET (2003-08).

Ecotoxicologist, she works on basic and applied ecology issues both in the field and in the laboratory, coordinating an international group. Recently she applied ecological techniques and approaches to study the biodeterioration of ancient parchment artifacts.

Laboratory activities include biochemistry and microbiology applied to ecological issues such as: 1. set up of methods to detect and evaluate the conservation status of seagrasses; 2. studies on the dose-response relationship in plants or microorganisms exposed to toxic compounds, including hormetic responses; 3. effects of contamination due to antimicrobial drugs (terrestrial and marine ecosystems), with chemical monitoring of abiotic/biotic matrices and bioremediation models; 4. ecological models of microbial colonization of parchment artifacts, evaluated by advanced methods for the study of biodeteriogen (next generation sequencing) and parchment media (raman, light transmitted analysis).
